Bu Ras

Bu Ras is a strange, enormous creature that walks on all fours, with one limb resembling a lion’s paw and another resembling a donkey’s leg, and howls like a wolf. It is known for surprising its victims and attacking them violently. According to folk belief, surviving it requires patience, endurance and recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. Similar figures are found in Arab folklore, such as the ogre or werewolf, which share frightening characteristics and sudden appearances in isolated places and remote roads. Bu Ras, however, is distinguished by local features rooted in Emirati folk memory.
