Welcome to Qasr Al Muwaiji, a symbol of leadership and authenticity, and the birthplace of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. Qasr Al Muwaiji and the adjacent Al Muwaiji Oasis represent some of Al Ain’s most important cultural sites, which are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The ruling Al Nahyan family of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with its distinguished sheikhs and leaders, has deep historical ties to Al Muwaiji and the city of Al Ain as a whole. Here, among the thriving oases, members of the noble family built numerous forts, castles, and watchtowers for residential and administrative purposes, as well as to protect freshwater resources, date palm farms, and flourishing trade routes. Located on the road leading to Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Muwaiji has long held a distinctive position in both the geography and history of the region.
Qasr Al Muwaiji served as an administrative centre and a family residence for generations. In 1946, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan moved to the palace, where he oversaw an important period of transformation that significantly shaped the present and future of both the palace and the city of Al Ain.
It was here, at Qasr Al Muwaiji, that His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was born in 1948. He spent much of his childhood and youth at the palace, observing his father and learning from him every day.
