Falaj Al Mualla Fort

Falaj Al Mualla Fort is located in the oasis of Falaj Al Mualla, which served in the past as a summer retreat for the people of the UAE. The area was known for its abundant cultivation of date palms, lemons, and vegetables.

The fort consists of a square-shaped structure with two towers, one in the northeast and the other in the southwest. It includes a madbasa (date-pressing room), several rooms, and a main square tower structure. Its three halls overlook an internal courtyard. The fort was constructed using wadi stones, with gypsum as a binding material. Jandal wood and palm-frond materials were used for roofing, while teak wood was used for the doors.

Falaj Al Mualla Fort dates back to 1800, during the reign of Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla I. It served to protect the northern and inland approaches to the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain. Several watchtowers were also built along the area opposite the fort. The Emirate’s Department of Antiquities and Heritage has restored the fort to preserve it as a historical reference for tourists and researchers.
