Ajman Fort

The Ajman Museum was established in Al Nuaimi Fort after His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, ordered its restoration and reopening as a museum dedicated to the emirate’s heritage in 1991. The fort was built during the reign of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid I (1803–1838). It underwent successive restoration and expansion works throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and remained the residence of the ruling family until 1970. In that year, His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi (1928–1981), may he rest in peace, moved to Al Zahra Palace. The fort subsequently served as the headquarters of Ajman Police General Command from 1970 to 1979.

The museum contains 30 different sections covering heritage and archaeological exhibits. Most of its sections focus on the traditional heritage of the United Arab Emirates in general and the heritage of the Emirate of Ajman in particular. The museum recreates the local environment of the past in a realistic manner through life-size models dressed in traditional clothing and accompanied by traditional furnishings. Background sound effects further enhance the realism of these displays.
