Al Aqqaab Island, which is currently uninhabited, is located 50 km north of Dubai, in the Great Umm Al Quwain Creek in the United Arab Emirates. During the fifth millennium BC, more than 6,500 years ago, the island served as a fishing camp with circular houses.
Fishing was the main activity of the inhabitants of Al Aqqaab and was carried out using nets, lines, and hooks made from shells. Although the inhabitants exploited the resources of the creek and the surrounding trees, they also caught tuna, which required boat trips out to sea.
