Features of local culture in the modern architectural heritage of the United Arab Emirates

Creative

The project proposal is an analytical book on modern urbanism in the United Arab Emirates, exploring and tracing the influence of local culture on the form and content of modern heritage. The book examines building materials and methods, architectural styles, building typologies, decorative and aesthetic elements, cultural values, and environmental, geographical, and human influences. It begins with a historical introduction based on archival documents, drawings, and photographs, followed by classifications and concepts that define local culture within the architectural context. The work includes a glossary of elements derived from local culture and identified in modern heritage, alongside an analysis of similarities, differences, absent, and newly developed features. The methodology integrates multidisciplinary research, combining material archaeological analysis, archival studies, visual analysis, and anthropological approaches to understand the impact of local culture on modern urbanism. The book concludes with chapters combining texts, drawings, archival and contemporary photographs, and appendices, serving as a critical and documentary reference for preserving the memory of the UAE’s modern architecture.
