Al Salbukh – Fire Striker

Al Salbukh is a traditional fire-lighting implement and a basic method used by earlier generations before modern means of ignition became available. In one form, it consists of two flint stones struck rapidly and forcefully against one another to produce sparks capable of igniting dry firewood. Other accounts describe it as a hard iron implement struck against flint to produce sparks. The Salbukh was associated with everyday life in traditional environments and was an essential means of lighting fires in homes and majlises for cooking or heating. The method reflects the simplicity of traditional tools and human ingenuity in making use of available natural resources to meet basic needs.
