الخرس

الخرس هو جرّة فخارية كبيرة وقد استُخدمت قديماً في تخزين المياه وتبريدها، كما استُفيد منها في حفظ التمر المدلوك وغير المدلوك، إضافة إلى تخزين الحبوب والمواد الجافة المختلفة، إذ كانت تتسع لكميات كبيرة قد تصل إلى نحو 350 كيلوجراماً . وتمتاز بعض الخروس بأنها تُصنع من طين يميل لونه إلى السواد وتكون مساميته أكبر من الحِبّ، لذلك كانت أكثر ملاءمة لحفظ السوائل الثقيلة مثل الدبس والمواد الغذائية الجافة، بينما تقل كفاءتها في حفظ مياه الشرب لفترات طويلة. ويتميّز الخرس بفوهة ضيقة نسبياً مقارنة بالحِبّ المخصّص للشرب، كما أن قاعدته صغيرة بينما يتسع بدنه في الوسط، لذا كان يُوضع مباشرة على الأرض داخل المطابخ أو البخاخير. وفي بعض الأحيان كانت الخروس تُملأ بالماء العذب وتوضع في الطرقات القصيرة بين القرى والبلدات ليستفيد منها المارّة وعابرو السبيل، في صورة تعبّر عن التكافل الاجتماعي وطلب الأجر وفعل الخير في المجتمع الإماراتي القديم.
