الجلاف

هو الحرفي المتخصص في صناعة السفن الخشبية التقليدية في الإمارات. كان عمله أساسياً لحياة البحر، لأن السفن تُستخدم للغوص على اللؤلؤ، صيد الأسماك، والتجارة. الجلاف يبدأ عمله باختيار الأخشاب المناسبة مثل الساج المستورد من الهند، ثم يقوم بقطعها وتشكيلها وربطها بالحبال أو المسامير التقليدية. يستخدم أدوات بسيطة مثل المنشار، المطرقة، والإزميل و المثقاب لكن النتيجة سفينة قوية تتحمل أمواج البحر. السفن التي يصنعها الجلاف مثل البوم، الجالبوت، والسنبوك و البقّارة كانت عصب الاقتصاد البحري في الإمارات. مكانة الجلاف عالية لأنه صاحب مهارة لا يملكها إلا القليل. عمله يتطلب صبرًا وخبرة طويلة في القياسات والأبعاد. كثير من الجلافين كانوا يتوارثون المهنة من آبائهم وأجدادهم، فتظل أسر معروفة بهذه الصنعة و يطلق عليهم عائلة الجلاف، و الجلاف يمثل جانبًا مهمًا من الهوية البحرية الإماراتية، لأنه يجسد العلاقة الوثيقة بين الإنسان والبحر عبر صناعة السفن التي حملت الأرزاق وتحدث الأهوال و العواصف.

Geographical or Cultural Specificity: The element is characterized by its association with a specific geographic area or cultural group within the country, giving it a unique identity that distinguishes it from other practices. This element represents part of the social and cultural history of the community, enhancing its value as a distinctive component of local or national identity.

Continuity and Intergenerational Transmission: The element is passed from one generation to the next, either orally through stories, songs, and narratives, or practically through training and hands-on practice. This living process ensures the element’s survival and development over time, while maintaining its connection to its cultural roots.

“Cultural diversity” refers to the variety of forms of cultural expression within a single society, such as the presence of different heritage practices across the Emirates, whether rooted in Bedouin, urban, or maritime traditions. This diversity is a source of strength and richness, and is celebrated within the country’s vision of cultural pluralism.
