يضرب هذا المثل في الحث على المصارحة والصدق في الصداقة، والدعوة إلى مراجعة النفس والعلاقة مع الصديق باستمرار. فمن أراد أن تدوم صداقته، فعليه أن يحاسِب صديقه ويصارحه بكل ما يصدر منه، حتى لا تتراكم الخلافات أو تسوء النيات. يعبّر المثل عن قيمة التواصل والمصارحة في العلاقات الإنسانية، ويرسّخ مبدأ أن الصداقة الحقيقية تُبنى على الوضوح والاحترام المتبادل.
