شِعر يبنى على سبعة أبيات، ويغنّى فى أغلب الأحيان بدون طبل. ويكثر غناء المسبّع في فنّ الدان دان، وتدور في شعر المسبع مساجلات بين الشعراء تمتدّ لفترات طويلة. ويُذكر أنّ المسبّع مستوحى من اللون الشِّعري المعروف بالزهيري أحد أنماط الشّعر النّبطي. واكتسب مسمّاه من كونه يتألّف من سبعة أبيات، فإذا كانت ستّة تُسمّى مسدوس، وإذا خمسة تُسمّى مخموس. وتختلف طريقة المسبّع أثناء أداء فنّ الويليّة (الدّان) عن بقيّة طرق إلقاء الأشعار المغنّاة الأخرى. ويكون إلقاؤها مصحوبًا بقرع الطبل.
