Bu Kharitah Camel

Bu Kharitah Camel is an enormous, savage camel that appears at particular times of day and devours children using a large sack that emerges from its mouth. It is characterized by strength and anger, particularly during the mating season, and combines aspects of the biological reality of the Arabian camel with local mythical imagination. The figure is distinctly local and forms part of Emirati and Gulf folk heritage, although similar motifs can be found in Arab and Indian folk traditions involving powerful animals with supernatural abilities to harm humans, without sharing the same name or the particular characteristics of the Bu Kharitah Camel.
